Bloom Coffee Roasters and Craft & Mason Roasting Co. agree that there are complications to running competitive businesses. We believe it's important for small businesses, like ours, to work together to uplift and support the community that supports our businesses. Not only do we intend to spread awareness of great coffee within the community that can progress as a result, but we also hold ourselves responsible to provide opportunities for others to play a role in making Lansing a better place for everyone. The more people we reach, the more opportunities we create, and the stronger our community will be.
The Refugee Development Center & The Role They Play In The Lansing Community
The Refugee Development Center has a mission; "To provide the education, orientation and support of refugees need to become self-sufficient members of society." Bloom Coffee Roasters and Craft & Mason Roasting Co. firmly believe in this mission, not only for those who claim status as a refugee, but for all walks of life within our beautiful city.
Here's more information about Refugee Development Center:
The Refugee Development Center (RDC) is a grassroots organization offering formal and informal learning opportunities in an open and inclusive setting. The RDC opened in 2002 because the Greater Lansing community identified service area gaps for newcomer populations seeking self-sufficiency. The common denominator in the gaps identified revolved around education, and hence, the mission of the center was born. Today, the RDC helps serve as the link between newcomer populations and the private, public, and faith-based communities of Ingham County.
Some of the services the RDC provides include:
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes
After school tutoring programs
Youth group activities promoting literacy, leadership, and learning
School orientations for new arrival families
Parent workshops and other opportunities
Approximately 300 annual volunteers trained to tutor, mentor and connect with refugees
Staff prepared to educate the larger Lansing community regarding refugee issues
Bringing The Sustainability Of The Craft Coffee Industry To Our Community
In the craft coffee industry, working together towards growth and progress in our community means that Lansing can play a role establishing equal growth and progress to communities worldwide. More specifically, the community we serve, is helping to provide coffee growers the opportunity to continually advance in quality growing practices by ensuring these growers and their workers are fairly compensated for their product.
Bloom Coffee Roasters and Craft & Mason Roasting Co. both work to establish relationships with coffee farms and coffee brokers to ensure that we are delivering the highest-quality coffee, while ensuring that the families who produce it are paid to educate their children, provide food and clean water, and increase the quality of life and quality of their crop with each harvest season that follows.
We hope that this partnership will show that a business community that works together provides more positive results to the overall community, than one where businesses are only working to benefit themselves. On behalf of the participating businesses, Bloom Coffee Roasters and Craft & Mason Roasting Co. want to thank you for creating a community that supports our efforts.
